I have always been drawn to the moon and the vast night sky. I set out on a self challenge to capture the moon siren’s beauty. Here is a series of photo shoots as I learned to focus the light, attempted different lengths of focus, and played with foreground shadows. Session dates are with each set of pictures.
Date 1/28/2021 I had just learned about ISO and light adjustments. Was not balancing all the setting, as I still didn’t know what the other setting meant yet. Minor edits done in Affinity Photo and Adobe Lightroom. Even though I did not get a clear focus on the moon, I am still fond of some of these images and shadows.
Date 2/21 On the way home from work (around 2am) was the perfect calm in the air for these pictures. Was pleasantly surprised the zoom worked well enough to capture crater definition. Bonus points I learned a little bit about how to capture the light of the moon in the dark night sky better too.
The following night, I went out again. Attempting to capture clouds in the moon light. Additionally playing with different exposure times – most of the pictures did not turn out, though it was a fun learning experience. I will be getting a tripod and attempting to capture a starry night sky in the near future.
